Setup details

Enter values from your equipment and your own estimates. Blank fields stay blank; nothing here is a recommended default.

Battery
What does battery capacity mean?
Read the total battery bank rating in Ah or Wh from its label or documentation. Use the unit selected above; Ah also needs the bank’s nominal voltage.
What does nominal voltage mean?
Use the rated voltage of the whole battery bank, from its label or manual. A live reading while charging or running a load is a different value.
What does battery level mean?
State of charge (SoC) is how full the battery is, expressed as a percentage. Use your battery monitor’s current reading.
What does minimum battery level mean?
This is the percentage of charge where you choose to stop using the battery. Check your battery or system guidance; the calculator does not choose a limit from chemistry.
Solar
What does rated panel power mean?
Add the rated watts on the labels of the panels in this array. This is nameplate power, not a promise of continuous output.
What are peak sun hours?
Peak sun hours express a day's solar energy as equivalent hours at standard sunlight intensity. They are not daylight hours. Use an estimate for your location, season and panel orientation.
What does solar system efficiency mean?
The percentage of estimated panel energy that is available for battery-powered devices after solar and storage losses. Inverter losses are handled separately. Do not count the same loss twice.
Inverter
What does inverter efficiency mean?
The share of battery energy that reaches AC devices through the inverter. Check its data at a similar load or use a relevant measurement. Maximum advertised efficiency may not apply to your load; idle use is not added separately.
Daily use
What does DC daily energy mean?
Energy used by devices powered directly from the battery system, in watt-hours each day. Use Daily Power Consumption to build this total. Do not include shore or generator-only loads.
What does AC daily energy mean?
Energy used by AC devices powered by the battery through an inverter, before inverter losses. Use Daily Power Consumption for this total; do not enter the whole RV total into both DC and AC.
